Horror-Loving Psychobilly Band Creepshow, Plays the Melody Inn on December 14th.
Christmas is nearly upon us in all its commercialized glory, and you know what that means! Why, only ignoring it entirely and taking in Punk Rock Night at the Melody Inn instead. And, while we’re at it, making a regular Halloween in December while we’re at it. That’s right brothers and sisters, Creepshow plays the Melody Inn on December 14th! Hallelujah, God help us all!
A Brief History
Hailing from Burlington, in the Ontario Province of Canada, Creepshow formed in 2005. Why did they form? Because the four founding members wanted to create a psychobilly band. That’s why.
Since most of the members play in other projects as well, their lineup can be a little fluid. But, they’ve still managed to maintain a relatively consistent membership over the years.
They have appeared in venues all over the world and released numerous albums.
They play psychobilly, which is more or less a mash-up of punk and rockabilly. More or less because, while psychobilly lyrics deal with taboo subjects as gleefully as punk lyrics do, they tend to be far less political. In fact, for the most part, psychobilly is tongue-in-cheek and aims to have fun.
This suits Creepshow just fine. Their playing has the same frantic pace as most punk acts, but with a certain laid-back sensibility. They want to have fun onstage and bring the audience into that fun. Their lyrical content generally concerns horror films, which is also pretty standard for a psychobilly band.
While their primary style is psychobilly, Creepshow is perfectly happy to integrate other genres. Country and rock being prominent examples. Even so, they also continue the fine punk tradition of eliminating barriers between audience and artist. Their shows prominently feature sing-alongs, and the entire audience is encouraged to participate. Better than caroling, right?
So, as always. The venue is the Melody Inn, door’s at 7:00 PM. There will be an encore performance at 1:00 AM the next day. See you there!
