Born Mohammad Aamir Hussain Khan on this day in 1965, Aamir Khan is not only an actor, he is also a producer, director and conducts talk shows on TV. He has been working in Bollywood for the last 30 years. He has bagged several accolades including 9 Filmfare Awards, 4 National Film Awards and an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award. He was also honored with Padma Shri (2003) and Padma Bhushan (2010), by the Indian Government. 2017 saw him being honored by China, as well. His popularity is global, particularly in India and China. Newsweek has also described him as the biggest movie star in the world.
When I was studying in college, Aamir Khan was expected to visit the institution during our socials. We waited for him there. Almost all the boys were dressed up like him. Our group decided to visit the nearby Filmistan studios where he was expected to shoot for a movie before coming to our college. When we went there, he was not to be seen. Unexpectedly, when I became a journalist, I really met him at Filmistan. I had sent my visiting card forward before me into the room where he was sitting. I saw him look at my card interestedly. It had my educational qualifications in it, as well. Very few people have respect for educated people, today.
